Talking with children
 



  Basic rules for talking with children
1) Stay calm!
2) Be in control
3) Give choices
4) Be clear about what you are trying to achieve ( Plan your options in  advance)
5) Give the conversation your full attention
6) Listen to what your child is really trying to say
7) Don't jump to conclusions
8) Watch and respond to visual signals, (read the body language)
9) Explain things ( 'Because I said so' is not good enough!)
10) Emphasise working together to find solutions
11) Make sure you and your partner are sining from the same hymn sheet
12) Allow space and time for consideration (don't press too hard)
13) Be consistent
