PPUK 9

These one day workshops are designed to support staff training, students studying NVQs in childcare, teaching assistants or careworkers and youth workers wishing to develop their professional skills

What is abuse? Signs and symptoms.


Our course facilitator will guide participants through the awareness, identification and procedures related to abuse. Students will know the systems and supports that are in place when they suspect a child/person is being abused and the actions they should take.

 PPUK10  Effective teamwork.

This workshop is specifically designed to support whole staff teams who work in family centres or care homes for children or the elderly. It emphasises the importance of staff are developing trust when working with colleagues and other agencies, and proposes effective systems of recording and communication.
Teams are encouraged to work on establishing appropriate and effective systems for their own purposes.

 PPUK11 Handling conflict and violence in the workplace

This workshop is appropriate to staff in any establishment where personnel may be exposed to violence or the possibility of violence.
Participants discuss strategies for the early recognition of potential conflict in a variety of situations. Personal, staff and client safety is covered. We explore the principles of conflict resolution through strategies such as restorative justice and group meetings.

 PPUK12 Working with and supporting parents

We aim to give staff the skills to maximize the support that they can give to children through working with the parents. Issues such as handling confidential information, diplomacy and tact, being non-judgemental and communicating with colleagues are explored. Participants will be assisted to understand the needs of parents and recognise the signs of stress, distress and the need for support. This course is appropriate for anyone working in a supportive role in schools, nurseries, children’s centres and clinics.

PPUK13
Communicating effectively with children

We look at the stages of development with regard to children’s communication skills. We discuss the importance of reading body language and facial expressions, and explore strategies for developing these skills in children. We emphasise the importance of listening to and understanding what children say, and of using appropriate language and structure.

PPUK14 Communicating effectively with young people

This course is similar to PPUK13 above, but focuses on developing the relevant skills for communicating with young people from 12-18. It is particularly useful for secondary school teaching assistants, youth workers and those working in children’s homes.
