Looking after yourself

Looking after yourself.

1. Get organised and plan ahead
2. Don't be ashamed to ask for help. None of us can get through life without it!
3. Think about your support networks. How can you strengthen them and use them?
4. Don't be a doormat. The whole thing collapses without you, so assert your right to do "fair shares" and insist on spreading the load.
5. Be positive and optimistic
6. Do something that is "just yours", whether it be running, going to a reading group, dance classes or genealogy!
7. Get plenty of sleep. If you have a young baby, grab every opportunity with both hands!
8. Eat a sensible diet, go easy on the drink, keep off the cigarettes, and get some exercise.
9. Give yourself a treat occasionally. You deserve it.
10. Remember that you originally had children to enjoy them. Celebrate their achievements rather than dwelling on their shortcomings.
